Learn More About Our Specimen Collection Process
It’s important that specimens are collected and stored safely and accurately. This guide
outlines the requirements for various specimen types. Please read the instructions in their
entirety and check Special Considerations before
collecting a sample. Feel free to contact us at

you have any questions.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
How to avoid delays and incomplete tests.
Labeling
Always label the sample tube/container directly even when this information is included on accompanying forms. Samples are separated from forms during testing, and this helps to ensure results are provided for the designated patient.
Blood Transfusions
Patients who recently underwent a blood transfusion should wait at least 2-4 weeks prior to blood draw for testing.
Del/Dup
Blood samples are preferred as swab samples may fail to generate high quality data.
Bone Marrow Transplants & Hematologic Malignancy
Samples from patients who underwent allogenic bone marrow transplants or have hematologic malignancy should be extracted from cultured fibroblasts instead of the standard blood/saliva/buccal samples.
