Reproductive Health Testing
Fulgent Genetics offers a large range of diagnostic panels that are associated with reproductive health implications. These tests are intended for individuals who may have trouble conceiving due to unexplained infertility, hormonal abnormalities, or atypical genitalia. (These options are separate from our carrier screening testing and our prenatal testing options.)
Indications
Infertility
Infertility is typically defined as not being able to conceive after at least one year of trying. While infertility is complex and the cause of many cases is unknown, more than half of cases of infertility are thought to be due to an underlying genetic issue (PMID 24416713). Fulgent's infertility panels may be able to identify these changes if present.
Hormonal Abnormalities
Hormones control many different bodily processes, including growth and development, sexual function, and reproduction. Symptoms of conditions that impact the hormones vary widely and patients may be diagnosed anywhere between infancy, adolescence, and adulthood. Fulgent offers panels associated with hormonal abnormalities including hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
Atypical Genitalia (also known as ambiguous genitalia)
Atypical genitalia (also known as ambiguous genitalia) is a rare condition where a newborn's external genitals don't look typically male or typically female. Atypical genitalia can have both genetic and non-genetic causes. Confirmation of a genetic cause may assist an individual's care team in planning tailored treatment.
